The 3D roll-out continues….whether you like it or not……

Samsung announced their 3D video on demand project with DreamWorks Animation earlier this year at CES and it looks as if the results are about to be officially launched.

As revealed in a Korean-language press release from Samsung, the service has been given the green light to begin its life in Korea and will eventually roll out across the world; of course, you’ll need a Samsung 3D TV to access the 3D VoD via their Smart TV platform to enjoy it.

However, don’t hold out too much hope for content. From what we can make out, there won’t be much on offer on release, with ‘highlights’ including trailers, music vids and educational stuff for the kids – full-length features won’t arrive until later on down the line.

Samsung appear to be following the general rule of thumb that manufacturers are using for their 3D products: develop the technology, get it out as quick as possible and hope that people buy into it, despite the general lack of available content.

3D in the home is a great idea on paper, but it’s proving a tough nut to crack in reality. We’re hoping for more content when Samsung’s video on demand service finally makes it to these shores – but we won’t be holding our breath….Similar Posts:
